Hi, this is Xiao
I am a Technical Game Designer with an interdisciplinary background in computer science, interaction design, and Architecture.
Currently working as Game Designer Fellow at Schell Games. I cooperated with various teams to identify issues and dissected them into small tasks to tackle. Authoring virtual reality player experiences, and prototyping core player systems.
About Me
During my graduate study, I initially pursued Architecture. But as the courses continued, I realized the excitement I got after designing a space did not come from building it but rather the story it told.
I began to assess unconsciously people’s interaction with space and found game design, something that led me to computer science, as my absolute passion.
Then, I shifted my study focus to game design, working on projects incorporating mixed reality design, system design, and level design.
Methodologies in Architecture, such as concept encapsulation and reference assembly, got me jump-started on designing game mechanics.
Currently, I am a research collaborator at the MIT MediaLab, producing works on XR interactions and gamifications. My work involves fast prototyping using both physical mock-ups and in Unity, user testing and iteration, concept pitching and producing design documents.
